Dr Nālani Wilson-Hokowhitu
Ka Pō Ho‘iho‘i depicts a nebula, the birthplace of stars, and seeks to inspire a return to the deep, dark night, and the beginnings of creation. The work expresses the genealogical connection between humans and the stars and is a reclamation of black as representing connectivity that is rich, creative, and lifegiving.
As a global citizen of Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian) ancestry, Nālani’s work as an artist, curator, and scholar is devoted to raising global awareness about decolonisation, critical, innovative and transformative Pacific and Indigenous futurities.
