Nadia Solomon

Nadia Solomon

Nadia Solomon is a dynamic writer and poet, with a focus on spoken word poetry. She is a regular performer at markets, festivals, and particularly the Verb Readers and Writers Festival in Wellington, where she has been honoured to be invited for the past several years. Her creative practice extends beyond poetry, encompassing a range of hobbies such as embroidery, painting, scrapbooking, and into blackout poetry, which she sees as an integral part of her artistic expression.

One of Nadia’s most cherished experiences in her creative journey was a tour of Huia Publishers, a Māori-owned publishing house. This inspiring opportunity, along with meeting renowned authors like Witi Ihimaera and Patricia Grace, was particularly meaningful for Nadia. Now, she is beginning to realise her dreams, by taking part in writers’ festivals and making a valued contribution to the literary world with her unique voice. Grateful for the support she receives from organisations that recognise talent beyond their own regions, Nadia continues to explore and expand her creative horizons.

For Nadia, creativity is both a form of release and a means of repair. Through her work, she channels emotions—whether joy, passion, or pain—into a form of healing art that helps both herself and the world around her.

“If I were to boil it down for myself, it’s release and repair… Creativity is my way to mend those parts of me. And to put them into light so that they don’t feel so hidden and worried and closed off.”

As a dynamic writer and poet based in Whatawhata, she uses creativity as a form of release and healing through her spoken word poetry and other artistic practices. Creativity, for her, is a way to channel emotions into art, offering both personal repair and a means to connect with others.
