John Thomson
John Thomson (JT) is a musician and songwriter whose creative exploration has been shaped by collaboration and storytelling. Influenced by greats like John Hiatt and Bob Dylan, Thompson is drawn to the art of crafting lyrics that tell compelling stories, often touching on themes of love, heartache and the complexities of life.
“Creativity isn’t about perfection; it’s about taking risks, making mistakes, and finding beauty in the unexpected.”
His work took a significant turn during the first lockdown in 2020, an event that sparked a new creative partnership with fellow musician Maciek Hrybowicz . What started as a simple project quickly blossomed into a profound musical partnership, resulting in the recording of several songs and the production of music videos. The creative union that began as an EP eventually grew into a full-length LP, which they have recently released on vinyl.
Thompson’s approach to creativity is inherently collaborative. He believes that the magic of music often lies in working with others, allowing ideas to evolve through shared experiences. His music, primarily blues-based, is characterised by its willingness to break free from traditional structures, incorporating jazzy chords and arrangements that reflect his and Maciek’s combined talents.
For JT, song writing is an expression of lived experience. He writes from the heart, believing that authenticity in music comes from personal encounters with life’s highs and lows.
