Arana Edwin
Arana Edwin’s multidisciplinary creative practice draws inspiration from a range of cultural, historical and artistic references. His work is a reflection of his curiosity and intellectual engagement with the wider world. Edwin’s artistic influences are diverse, from modernist pioneers through to Henry Moore and includes many of the Dutch masters. This eclectic mix informs his approach, where the subject matter dictates the style, allowing him to navigate different artistic forms with fluidity.
Arana grew up surrounded by art, thanks to his father’s influence. This early exposure helped to shape his artistic sensibility, particularly in his sculptural work, which often explores themes inspired by Russian structures and propaganda.
Edwin believes that art plays a vital role in offering respite from the everyday, providing viewers with a momentary escape from reality. He compares the experience of engaging with art to stepping into a different place, where the outside world fades away, allowing for introspection and emotional connection. His passion for music also informs his creative process, with genres ranging from classical cello to death metal influencing the emotional depth and strength of his work. Through his art, Arana aims to evoke powerful, transformative experiences that resonate with audiences on a deeply personal level.
“Creativity is necessary for everyone; it takes us outside of the everyday realm and offers respite from normal life.”
