Louise Penberthey

Louise Penberthey

Louise Penberthys creative practice has been shaped by a resourceful upbringing, where making things by hand was often a necessity. She views jewellery as a magical and significant art form, often serving as a lasting symbol in peoples lives. Penberthy takes pride in crafting pieces that carry personal stories and can be passed down through generations. Her work is characterised by a blend of love, craftsmanship, and a sense of timelessness, aiming to create jewellery that will last for a lifetime and beyond.

“The joy of making jewellery is in creating something that lasts for centuries—a little symbol or pivotal moment in someones life.”

Louises professional journey has presented wide-reaching opportunities and includes working with, and learning from, esteemed jeweller William Griffiths, known for his intricate and high-end designs. This experience exposed her to creating elaborate and complex pieces. However, Penberthys current work has moved away from those earlier influences, focusing on more personal and individual creations.

Now embracing a less commercial approach to her craft, Louise finds joy in creating unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. This allows her greater creative freedom, the ability to experiment with new ideas, and an ongoing sense of pleasure in seeing the positive emotional connection people often have with her work.

Louise Penberthy is a Coromandel-based jeweller who has been immersed in the craft for many years.
